Celebrating Earth Day is Simple

When we talk about Ayurveda, nature is always a present topic, the five elements are the foundation of its wisdom. When we talk about Yoga, we must speak about conscious actions guiding the path towards enlightenment. These ancient sciences have brought us wisdom, that sometimes, their simplicity has been overlooked.

I believe we all can agree Earth’s resources have been misused thus far, and at this rate nature isn’t able to keep up. We all can take simple steps to make a difference, bringing more meaning into our lives, and giving our planet a little slack. Find below five simple tips on how to become more aware of your daily actions and start making a difference:

  1. Reusable water bottles: I’m sure you have one, or many, and perhaps are making good use of your stainless steel water bottle everyday. You’re saving around $1236 a year from simply making use of your bottle, and also not dumping an extra 156 water bottles in our oceans per year.

  1. Sunshine exposure: by having curtains and drapes up you’ll save on electricity but also your body will become regulated with nature’s cycle, also known as circadian cycle. That means, waking up feeling refreshed and going to bed ready for rest.

  1. Shop at your local farmers market: again, it helps to save money, but also the produce is fresher, in Ayurveda it’s said to have more prana (life-force) which is easier to digest, less plastic wrappers, and less time traveling to get to your table which decreases the amount of carbon footprint used for transportation.

  1. Go vegan once a week: this tip has been talked about so much, but I still believe it’s relevant. The meat industry contributes about 11-17% of greenhouse gas emission yearly, not to mention the deforestation and water consumption that takes place to make its production possible. Meatless Monday is a campaign that has been around for years to bring awareness and guidance.

  1. Find time to meditate: that means getting up 15 minutes earlier than usual, finding a quiet and comfortable space to sit and be with your thoughts. Nowadays, anxiety is also developed due to continued stimulus from social media. This uncontrolled exposure also creates a need for more and newer things, clothes, shoes, electronics… By meditating for 15 minutes daily, you’ll feel more grounded and certain of the choices you make.

The whole intention behind this post is to bring awareness, and hopefully consciousness, to how simple actions can make a huge impact, not only in our personal lives, but for our planet.

Take one step at a time, find yourself questioning why things are done the way they are, and take note of how any of these changes are impacting your daily life in a positive way. Both Ayurveda and Yoga are here to support our paths towards a more connected being, with ourselves and the universe.
